What was the name of that park again?

The real thing in the Museum.

Not someone you would care to meet in a dark alley. With or without the flesh.

Does this guy look familiar?

This guy lives on the street in Vernal Utah.

Jim in the hammock.

It isn't often that I find a hammock that makes me look like a little fella. The owners of this larger than life hammock were the Watkins, neighbors of our friends Elder and Sister Johnson.
Brother Watkins knew Sister Southams' father Brother Turner when he lived in Jensen UT.

Elder and Sister Johnson

Elder and Sister Johnson served with us at Heber Valley Camp in 2008. It was a wonderful opportunity for a visit and catching up on everything. They were excellent tour guides and drove us around Vernal and then to Flaming Gorge. Before we left Vernal on Saturday morning we attended a Boy Scout breakfast on pioneer day. But we had to get on the road before the parade.

More flowers

Vernal Utah

Flowers like these lined both sides of main street in Vernal Utah. We had never seen this many flowers on a city street before. We heard about it 2 years earlier but had to wait to see them. It was worth the wait.

Our friends Kim and Kerry Hicken of Roosevelt Utah. We had a wonderful visit, thanks for everything.

Well we are on the road again and here we are outside of Roosevelt UT. My friends (now our friends) Kerry and Kim Hicken invited us to the ward dutch oven dinner. This is just part of the Dutch Ovens that were there. Do you Think that we got full ? Oh our aching stomachs, but the food was sooooooo good.

Buggy ride in Midway Utah

Going for a buggy ride in midway Utah. Elder Kelly and Sister Penz in the front seat and Jim and Pat Triplett in the back seat. On this particular day Ed (Elder Kelly) had about 17 horses that he owned. He is the Auctioneer on Tuesday up near Brigham city (Willard) and if he sees a horse that he likes he brings it home. The matched team that he is driving are full brothers and he has had them for a few months. It was nice to be among so many great friends.

Buggy ride in Utah

Going for a little Buggy ride in Midway Utah. Elder Kelly and Sister Penz in the front seat and Jim and Pat Triplett in the back seat. On the day that we took our ride Elder Kelly had 17 horses. The number is almost always subject to change every Tuesday when he goes to the Auction. He is the Auctioneer on that day and if he sees a horse that he likes he brings it home with him.

Lightning may not strike twice, but

A
About half way across the Salt flats about 200 ft from the Dugway Rest Park exit and we have more tire trouble. We had to wait about 3 hours before Les Schwab arrived with two 14 ply tires to get us back on the road. Caleb was about 6ft6inches tall and probably weighed in at around 350 lbs. without an apparent ounce of fat. He broke down and mounted both tires with a hammer and two tire irons. A very nice young man.

Trouble in River City (Marysville CA)

Well it is Monday afternoon June 28th the temperature is just about 103 as we leave Marysville CA on highway 20. The car behind flashes their lights and as I check the mirrors I see smoke and pieces of tire flying from the right rear of the fifth wheel. The road has a wide shoulder so I pull off as quickly as I can. Not a nice way to start a long journey east. Except for the hole in the bottom of the trailer and the completely demolished tire we are OK and with the help of a stranger (Gene Starr) we are back on the road in about an hour. A little bit shaken but not much the worst for wear. Except now we have no spare tire for the trailer. But not to worry we know a fellow in Heber City that ownes a Tire shop and he can resolve that problem. I decide now to keep driving through the night so that it is cooler for the tires.
